The bottom line: Eight years on, the Qatar Airways Qsuite remains the best business class product I have flown — Authority verdict 9.4/10 on QR1 Doha to London Heathrow.

Qatar Airways’ Qsuite has been the most-imitated business class seat in commercial aviation since it entered service in 2017. With Air France, Lufthansa, British Airways, and now United all introducing variants of the closed-suite concept, we returned to the original to test whether it still holds the title of best business class in the world.

Flight: QR1, Doha (DOH) to London Heathrow (LHR) Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER, registration A7-BAC Cabin: Qsuite, seat 4A Date of travel: 2026-04-04

The seat

Eight years on, the seat itself shows almost no obvious wear. The leather upholstery is firm, the suite door slides cleanly without rattle, and the cabin trim — finished in Qatar’s signature burgundy and warm walnut — feels expensive in a way that the more recent imitators do not always achieve. Storage remains exceptional: a dedicated stowage compartment for shoes, a deep amenity drawer, and a discreet personal mirror behind a pull-out panel.

Bedding is at the high end of the category, supplied by The White Company. The mattress pad converts what is fundamentally a firm seat into a surprisingly comfortable bed, and the pillow is generously sized.

Service

The cabin crew on QR1 are typically among Qatar’s most experienced, and this flight was no exception. Service was attentive without being intrusive — a balance that is harder to achieve than airlines often acknowledge. The cabin senior introduced herself by name within ten minutes of boarding, and the lead cabin crew member working my aisle anticipated three separate small requests over the course of the flight before I made them.

The pre-flight Champagne, served in proper glassware, was Charles Heidsieck Brut Réserve. A pre-departure menu was offered with options for both the dine-on-demand window and a full set service following takeoff.

Food

The dine-on-demand format remains a meaningful differentiator. I selected the Arabic mezze, the seared sea bass with saffron risotto, and the cardamom panna cotta over the course of approximately four hours, with each course delivered within fifteen minutes of order. The mezze was the highlight — clearly fresh, generously portioned, and accompanied by warm housemade flatbread.

Wine pairings were thoughtful. The list rotates seasonally, with the spring 2026 list including a strong Burgundy contingent and an interesting orange wine from the Republic of Georgia.

Verdict

Eight years on, the Qsuite remains the best business class product I have flown. The combination of seat, soft product, food, and service quality is consistently strong in a way that no competitor — including the highly impressive Singapore Airlines 777-9 product — has yet matched in aggregate. For Doha-to-Europe travel, QR1 specifically is worth seeking out for the consistently strong crew and the well-timed schedule that arrives at Heathrow before the morning short-haul wave departs.
